On the Nextdoor site I saw SignalsAZ post a question about the building:
What are your thoughts on the new hotel and mixed-use development at Old City Hall? Do you think it will enhance the downtown experience?
Most replies were negative on the design. Said it didn't fit in. But that project has been around for years. A competition was held by the city on getting best offer and best use of that building and land after the city moves out, into the one the city bought several blocks north.
The project is now named The Assembly at Old City Hall. It went thru "design review". Now finally, after several design versions by the original winner, of the competition, and several versions by the second and current developer, Shane Shumway it is being built.
By the way, the first design was considered too modern by many locals, and now years later this "brick and mortar" version is what is under construction.
