Local Buildings and Projects

by 'Local Architect' » Mon Feb 02, 2026 1:59 pm

I would like to use this blog space to highlight local buildings, current construction, and proposed projects, as much as publicly available information will allow.

PREVIOUS: Building Highlight #01
Armory Building on Gurley St.
Prescott Armory (Old Armory): In July 1935, one of the most familiar and best known federal relief programs was implemented - the Works Progress Administration fWPA). In April 1936, ground was broken for the WPA-financed Prescott National Guard Armory. It was finally completed in November 1939.
I love the visual massing, the use of stone and the placement, above its surroundings. It is a nice Gateway to Prescott.

CURRENT: Building Highlight #02
City Park and Ballfield Grandstand Building at Ken Lindley Field on Gurley St.

We all drive past this ICON all the time. I like the small scale massing and the Art Deco style. Built in 1934, still looks great each time I drive by.
