I read with interest the opinion column in the March 18 Courier. As I struggle with the same irritation. Chris Ortiz, a dog owner, says there are dogs in “his neighborhood that cannot stop barking, no matter what time of day it is.”
Thank you Chris. This is not an easy subject to bring up.
Chris does a great job of explaining that it is the dog owner that needs to be disciplined, not the dog. He asks us to think about this happening in our own neighborhood.

We had a dog in the yard behind us that was trained not to bark, nice, but they moved. We have dogs all around us. All bark and all have inconsiderate owners. The renters next to us had a dog barking inside their house, most of the day, we could hear it inside our house, very unpleasant. Dog owners have a responsibility to mitigate ‘noise’ coming from their property. Renter or owner.

I will ask; is there any typical neighborhood where there is no nuisance dog barking? Is your neighborhood free from uncontrolled dog barking? To the owner, their dogs bark is a joy, but not to the neighbor, its annoying, a dog’s bark is intended to be annoying, to alert those nearby.

Chris mentions the local noise ordinances, then struggles with whether he should just continue to ignore it, or maybe get the city involved. We at this household struggle with that same question.

Do the barking dogs owner’s care at all? *VOTE ABOVE*
