Do you know the 'Wildland Urban Interface' Code

Post by 'Local Architect' »

Did you know Prescott adopted the WUI years ago? It is an International Building Code issued by ICC and adopted around the world. The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) code is designed to mitigate wildfire risks to life and property. It typically includes standards for structure density, building materials, vegetation management, emergency vehicle access, and fire protection. Some examples include building with larger sized beams and posts, using fire resistant siding and soffits, roof venting needs to include ember control. This code will increase construction costs on new Prescott buildings, but marginally, and don't we all need more fire protection in our often-dry forests?
Apparently, Prescott is considering expanding the current boundaries of WUI. Below is a flyer on upcoming local discussions.
