HEADLINE July 17 1977: "Hotel along Whiskey Row is Sold. Will be converted to low-rent apartments for the elderly."
YES a 1977 article, but it fits with today's Whiskey Row hotel drama. I suggest it is important to know about the past. Most residents are from somewhere else and don't know the history and culture of this city. Maybe reading about what Prescott went thru to get here, today, 2026.....everybody's hometown. Now we are learning about 'the rest of the story.'
Can't imagine the St Micheals hotel was ever considered for that kind of conversion. Crazy.
Check back for more Whiskey Row history posts in the coming days.

1974 Article: We're taken Whiskey outta Whiskey Row
1974 AZ Republic Article: "Prescott studies Whiskey Row repair'
"Whiskey Road was a shabby strip". " We're taken Whiskey outta Whiskey Row". These are comments in the article. Hard to believe that, I kinda thought it was always great. But I guess this is the process most small historical towns, cities go thru.
St. Michael Hotel is a Jewel on the corner. The scale, color and character of the 'Row' is great, Morning sun thru the storefront windows and nice afternoon shade. The article suggests city leadership has been working on and protecting Whiskey Row for decades. Who knew? ....And we all will for decades to come. It is nice to know more about the more recent history of Whiskey Row, gives perspective on what we are fighting for today. Now, we are learning the 'rest of the story'.
